A Lesson in Patience
We moved to Wyoming for a simpler life. Less people, more land, abundant nature outside your own door, less taxes and kind people. We’ve been blessed to experience all of these. It really is an amazing place. The pace is slower here. There aren’t too many rushed people. People visit with each other at the store while waiting in line. The pharmacist knows you by name and in our case the hardware stores know us too. Neighbors visit as we are shoveling snow off the driveway. For the most part kindness reigns in our little town.
It would probably be perfect if we weren’t remodeling our house. It’s a challenge to find what you want or need sometimes. Online shopping is number one! And the slower pace can mean it can take awhile to get something. We have weather delays, which I understand, they take road safety seriously here. It doesn’t seem to matter how prepared you try to be, there will be delays in Wyoming.
These challenges have forced us to be more patient, more creative, and more understanding. I’m not always good with patience when it comes to home projects. For example, it’s getting old not having a working kitchen. It’s hard to wait on others to finish their part so you can finish your part. We are still waiting on our countertops. For some reason the installer can’t get the material or apparently a date as to when it will arrive. Frustrating. I keep telling myself they will be beautiful and the wait won’t seem so bad when the kitchen appliances get installed. I really do appreciate the installer, they have been working hard to get the material. They are as frustrated as we are. In the meantime I’m learning how to use my crockpot better!
The replacement freezer is finally in Rock Springs and is supposed to be delivered tomorrow! I’m hoping the roads are cleared so they can get through. The freezer was ordered back in Nov. The first one came damaged right before Christmas so another one had to ordered. Fingers crossed the new one is not damaged and can be delivered.
The kitchen delays have given us a chance to work on the office/library/guest bed area. We couldn’t find cabinets and bookcases that we liked that weren’t crazy high prices, so when we went to Oregon we went to Ikea and stocked up. Our little 4 runner was full on the way home. We will use the IKEA bookcases as a base to do built ins. They will be topped with a nice wood top stained dark walnut and trimmed out once the floors go in. For the desk base cabinets I wanted shaker style cabinets. They come in white around here so we purchased the white and have painted them a nice gray color. The desktops will be a dark walnut stained butcher block. We built the reading couch/guest bed with drawer cabinets and framed the rest with wood and plywood. The headboard is built around a modified IKEA bookcase. I think it’s coming together nicely.
It is nice to see progress in the office area. We just need to keep moving forward. I like the use of the loft space, it’s multi functional and gives us more storage. It also means we are one step closer to laying the hardwood floors.
Life is good in Wyoming. The blessings far out way the challenges. I’m learning a lot and growing in areas that I need to. Being Wyoming tough is a challenge, but one I’m ready to take on!
